I knew I was going to have a busy weekend with family stuff and wouldn’t be able to post until Sunday night, so I asked Kim of Ilax Studio to write a guest post. I have been enjoying Kim’s blog for a few months now and am happy that she accepted to write a post for my blog. Kim is a runner and in her blog she talks about her training along with health & fitness, Travel, Work and life in general.

When was the last time you got home at the of the work day, and shared something positive about your day with your spouse/loved ones/roommates?
Think about it – are you the type to come home and share both the bad and good from your work day? Just the bad? Nothing at all?
If you’re like me, the little thing that bothered you in the morning at work is still in the back of your mind when you get home. As much as you sit in the car in the driveway, trying to blow off steam before you go inside, you’re still going to answer the well-intentioned “How was your day”? with a sigh and frustrated response of “crappy.” Even though you won’t be able to remember this thing that was bothering you now in a week, or a month, you can’t get past it when you arrive home.
Well, that’s just awful to live, isn’t it? Awful for you, and the person you live with!
I’ve kind of been wondering what I need to do about this, and found some inspiration in a short quote from the January issue of SELF:
When you have a great day at the office, don’t hide it: folks who shared happy moments from their 9-5 felt less tense and managed domestic obligations better, researchers at Kansas State University in Manhattan say. Crow about a victory, however small, to lift your spirits.
So, they are saying that sharing something positive helps with managing domestic obligations. Sure, I’ll take that. I am more likely to want to put the dishes away, make dinner, and tidy up if I share something positive, because it puts me in a good mood.
But share something positive just to get into a good mood! Think of something, anything from your day, that made you laugh, smile, or even breathe a sigh of relief. Sharing it will make you feel better, and possibly the person you are sharing with too!
Sure, share the frustrating bits too, but don’t forget to throw something positive in as well. Something you enjoyed from your day.
I’ll admit, I am still working on this a bit. I love to go home and whine whine whine away… about irrelevant little things. You know what though? If I keep doing that, my spouse is going to think I work with a bunch of morons. I don’t. I just like to vent. It’s time to even it out a bit, for my own good.
What is one positive thing about your day, so far?

Great post!! So true, we tend to leave out the positives and blurt out all the negative things from the day right away. I definitely need to work on this!!
For some reason I mostly feel good about workdays even when bad things happenedl. It’s very weird actually.
Though sometimes I also only talk about the bad stuff.Oh well, we’re only human
Great post though! We should all try to be more aware of that.
It’s Friday…yay!
Such a great post Kim! I am so going to work on this because when I get home I immediately launch into what was wrong with my day instead of what was good! Great reminder!!
I loved this post! I’m seriously going to try this with my roomie
One positive thing about my day so far is that I’m going back to school!
Great post! I happen to be a big fan of sarcasm and complaining in the style of Larry David, but I know this creates more negativity than necessary. I’ve seen that it brings my husband down, so I’ve been working on being more positive. If I have something negative to vent, I try to at least make a genuine joke about it. Most things are laugh-worthy.
One positive about my day so far: It’s Friday! And my co-worker turned on the heater in the office before we got in this morning, so it’s nice and cozy
Love this!! The best part about today was the weather! It was gorgeous! 70 degrees…no humidity, not a cloud in the sky….gorgeous!
yay kim! one of my fave bloggers posting via another one of my favorite blogs…awesome!
Thanks for letting me guest post, Gelareh! I am going to have to check in and tell you how I am doing with this
two great girls in one post…love it
thx for the tag team collaboration!
Thanks Kim for being a guest on my blog
I am definitely one to walk in the door and start with all the bad things that happened at work… I usually call Raymond with the good and exciting things as soon as they happen at work. I definitely need to work on being more positive about my day when I get home.
Awesome post! I always have something to complain about after work. Yesterday however, my complaint turned into a positive (for me at least). I was actually yelled at on the phone by a guy looking for a payment from us. I explained to him that we cant pay an invoice he never sent and he called me a liar. I complained to our rep, and he is no longer allowed to call us. HA! I dont know if that counts as a positive thing. It made me happy though.
I went grocery shopping today and got LOADS of good stuff. Thats positive!!
Getting my CPR/AED certification was a definite plus!
one positive note is that i finally got to writing this paper that is due Wednesday and I’ve already written 5 pages! only 3 more to go!
(taking a break to blog surf of course!)
Nicely said Kim! I really needed that. I vent too much to my poor husband and he just listens. Gal! Positive: my lunch rocked, it is sunny AND warm today and I paid my librabry fines
Life s GOOD!
